Angela Pugh of Addiction Unlimited on Why People Quit Halfway
Have you ever wondered why so many people drop out of coaching programs? Why someone pays for a transformational mastermind and then stops showing up for themselves halfway through?
It is not a lack of resources. Angela Pugh has watched it happen enough times to know the real reason, and it is the subject of Episode 40 of The Purpose Chasers: people let their self limiting beliefs dictate their actions, and commitment is the only thing that separates the people who finish from the people who quit.
Who Is Angela Pugh?
Angela is a master coach, the founder of My Recovery Toolkit and the host of the Addiction Unlimited podcast. Her work lives at the hardest end of the commitment question, where showing up for yourself is not a nice idea but a daily decision with real stakes. That is exactly why her take on coaching dropouts is worth more than most.
Commitment Is the Difference
The people who achieve their goals are not smarter and they did not have better resources. They decided, and then they kept deciding. Angela is honest about her own self limiting beliefs in this conversation and about how she has kept investing in herself to make sure she keeps growing. That is the pattern: the coaches who last are the ones who stay coachable.
If you run a program and your clients are quitting halfway, the uncomfortable question is not what is wrong with them. It is what belief they walked in with that you never addressed. Resources do not fix that. Commitment does, and commitment is built through accountability and proof that the thing works.
What Investing in Yourself Really Means
I came out of about 10 years as a therapist working with youth and families, and I watched the same thing Angela describes from the other side of the table. The clients who got better were the ones who committed to the process before they could see the result. Investing in yourself is not buying the course. It is showing up on the day you do not feel like it.
Why Proof Keeps People Committed
Here is the business lesson under all of this. The reason people quit coaching halfway is usually fear, not laziness. Fear it will not work, fear they will fail again, fear they will be disappointed. Fear does not get resolved with logic. It gets resolved through belief transfer, and the fastest belief transfer on earth is a past client saying on video that it worked for them. When your current clients can see your past clients, they stay. That is what the Social Proof System does inside a coaching business, and it is why I teach it to coaches before I teach them anything about ads.
What Commitment Sounds Like on the Other Side
Aurora Potts came to my workshop knowing only that she needed something more within herself. How she left:
"Now I am awakened. I feel reborn. And I couldn't be more excited about the future."
Sam Haynes moves a thousand miles an hour. My workshop forced him to slow down and look in the mirror. What he found:
"A lot of times you can find out it's actually not a problem. It's a blessing."
